Detectives are hunting two men after a number of cows and a deer were found shot dead in rural Queensland.

Police said the cattle, worth $2,500 each, were shot and killed on a rural property on Wivenhoe Somerset Road at Crossdale between March 14 and March 31.

A small quantity of meat was removed from the cows.

Around the same time, a deer was also found shot dead near Lake Somerset by Seqwater rangers, with surveillance images capturing several people carrying firearms trespassing through the area.

An investigation into the illegal hunting is now underway, with police probing whether or not the two incidents are linked.

Detectives are appealing for those pictured in the below surveillance images, or anyone with information, to come forward.
