Police appeal to identify man found in critical condition

Police are appealing for information after an unidentified man was located unconscious on the North Coast today.

About 11.25am, ambulance paramedics were called to a man who was located unconscious in the water at the footbridge on Fingal Street, Brunswick Heads.

The man was taken to Tweed Heads Hospital in a critical condition with a bleed on the brain. It is believed he suffered a medical episode.

Police have canvassed the scene but at this stage the man is still unidentified.

The man is described as being aged about 65, Caucasian appearance, 175cm tall, 80kg, grey/black shoulder-length hair tied back in a pony tail with a red band, grey/black full beard, thick black eyebrows, blue eyes, and scars on his chest from a prior medical procedure.

He also had a tattoo on his lower abdomen of two apples with two leaves, and a tattoo on his right inner forearm of a love heart with wings. At the time he was found he was wearing black shorts with blue stripes on the side.
