Teen arrested after knocking officer unconscious in violent attack

A 17-year-old man has been arrested after a police officer was knocked unconscious in a violent attack overnight.

At around 7pm, police were called to the corner of Station Road and Croydon Road in Woodridge following reports of an altercation.

When officers tried to arrest the 17-year-old man he resisted and became violent.

While the officers were attempting to restrain the man a number of bystanders confronted police enabling the man to run away.

Police gave chase and a struggle between the man and officers ensued.

A short time later, the man was taken into custody by police.

One male officer suffered a suspected concussion after hitting the ground and knocking his head on the roadway. He was transported to Logan Hospital for precautionary examination.

The 17-year-old Marsden man has been charged with serious assault police, obstruct police and public nuisance and further counts of assault police.

He is expected to appear at the Beenleigh Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.
