Police attacked in violent rampage

A MAN has allegedly gone on a violent rampage and attacked three police officers on the NSW-Queensland border.

The violent scenes erupted in Tweed Heads on Friday afternoon before spilling across the border into Coolangatta.

Police were patrolling Tweed Heads when they allegedly spotted the 42-year-old man causing a disturbance and abusing strangers in the street about 4.30pm.

Upon seeing the officers, the man allegedly ran across the border towards the beach in Coolangatta.

NSW Police said officers followed the man and called on Queensland Police for help.

The man was found a short time later, allegedly abusing more members of the public.

He then allegedly turned on police as they went to approach him.

“As police approached he became more aggressive, striking all three officers,” NSW Police said in a statement.

Additional police were needed to subdue the man, who was arrested and taken into custody by Queensland Police.

The 42-year old has been charged with serious assault, assault police and obstruct police.
