UPDATE: A MAN who held police at bay from inside his Palm Beach home for up to eight hours yesterday is expected to apply for bail tomorrow.

Mitchell Sawyer, 26, was arrested at 7.20pm on Sunday after he barricaded himself in his Palm Beach Ave home around midday.


After eight long hours of negotiations, police raided the house and found a stash of meth and a shortened firearm.

The Bulletin reports that Sawyer will appear in Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow where it is expected he will apply for bail.

EARLIER: A man will face Southport Court on Monday, accused of sparking a siege which lasted more than seven hours.

Police were seen escorting the 26-year-old from the Palm Beach Avenue home in handcuffs around 7.20pm on Sunday.

Scores of police first surrounded the home around midday after reports the man was armed with a gun and had locked himself inside.

It is believed a concerned relative raised the alarm.

It will be alleged that a shortened firearm and a quantity of methamphetamine were located at the address.

6pm SUNDAY: A STAND-OFF in Palm Beach where a suspected armed man has barricaded himself inside his own home is now nearing its seventh hour.

Scores of police have the Palm Beach Avenue home surrounded and are trying to coax the 26-year-old man into surrendering.

They say they are slowly making progress.

The immediate area remains locked-down while police attempt to negotiate a peaceful resolution.

FIRST: POLICE are on scene of a tense stand-off at Palm Beach where a man has barricaded himself inside a home.

Officers were first called to Palm Beach Avenue house around midday Sunday by the 26-year-old man’s parents.

Police arrived to find the man and sole occupant of the property had locked himself inside.

There are unconfirmed reports he may be armed.

The area has been placed into lockdown as scores of police strategically surrounded the home.

Police say negotiators have made contact with the man, but he refuses to surrender.

Palm Beach Ave from Tahiti Avenue to the Gold Coast Highway has been closed while officers attempt to resolve the situation.
