Police find drugs and firearm during raid on Gold Coast unit

A man and three women have been charged after police raided a unit in Mermaid Waters and uncovered a stash of drugs, a firearm and stolen property.

Detectives executed a search warrant on the Alexandra Avenue home, allegedly finding 160 grams of Methylamphetamine, a shortened .22 calibre rifle, Cannabis, GHB, MDMA and a quantity of stolen property.

A 35-year-old man was charged with trafficking dangerous drugs, three counts of possess dangerous drugs, possess utensils, unlawful possession of a weapon and authority required to possess explosives (ammunition).

He was refused bail to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today, along with a 33-year-old woman who was charged with fraud, possess utensils and receiving tainted property.

Two other women, aged 34 and 30, are due in Southport Magistrates Court at a later date charged with similar offences.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Ian Armbruster said the arrests were the result of the “commitment to the community to disrupt illicit drugs within the community”.

“These search warrants, supported by local intelligence and valuable information from across the community will continue to be conducted across the Gold Coast District,” Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Ian Armbruster said.

“By disrupting criminal behaviour in this way, we aim to deter future offenders.”
