Police find ‘loaded speargun’ after man threatens to shoot paramedics

A man has been charged after he allegedly threatened to shoot Queensland Ambulance paramedics, with a search of his vehicle finding a loaded speargun.

Police allege the 52-year-old was being treated by paramedics on Waterford Road at Ellen Grove around 2.00pm on Wednesday, when he became aggressive and threatened to shoot them.

The man returned to his car parked nearby and retrieved a weapon, causing the paramedics to withdraw to safety, police said.

Officers rushed to the scene and took the man into custody, with a search of his vehicle later finding a loaded speargun.

The man was charged with five counts of serious assault of an ambulance officer.

He’s due to appear in the Richlands Magistrates Court this morning.
