A MAN armed with a gun has died after allegedly shooting himself at a home in country New South Wales.
Officers from the Barrier Police District were called to the 44-year-old man’s home in the outback town of Broken Hill to check on his welfare about 3.50am local time on Thursday.
Police said officers heard a gunshot shortly after arriving at the home on Lane Lane.

“Upon arrival the officers attempted to speak with a 44-year-old man who was believed to have been armed with a firearm,” NSW Police said in a statement.
“Shortly after 4am, the officers heard a gunshot and located the 44-year-old man.”
Paramedics attended but the man could not be revived, police said.
A Critical Incident Investigation Team from the Central North Police District has been tasked to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The investigation will be subjected to an independent review.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
