Queensland Police Commissioner Ian Stewart said he hoped the operation would “send a clear message to drivers”.

“Police will be specifically targeting drivers doing the wrong thing and putting themselves and others at risk by speeding, drink driving or being distracted while driving,” he said.

A similar day-long blitz on December 20, 2013 saw 299 drivers nabbed for speeding, 47 for using mobile phones and 13 for seatbelt offences.

Police have also issued a warning for the Australia Day long weekend. Read it here!
