Police hunt child sex predator after girl allegedly attacked in NSW shop

POLICE are searching for a man who allegedly indecently assaulted a 12-year-old girl at a store in northern NSW.

The 12-year-old girl was allegedly indecently assaulted by an unknown man while shopping at a store on Treelands Drive at Yamba around 11.30am on Thursday, July 13.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse Squad were only recently made aware of the incident and are appealing for information from the public to help identify the girl’s allegedly attacker.

The man is said to be aged either in his 50s or 60s and is described as being Caucasian in appearance and about 160-165cm tall with a solid build and a large stomach.

He has short, untidy, light-brown hair greying at the temples, a wrinkled face and a large nose, and was last seen wearing a brown/tan-coloured jacket with a white wollen collar, a red jumper and light long pants.

It is believed he may have left the area as a passenger in a silver sedan, police said.
