Police hunt man accused of approaching children at Lennox Head, Byron Bay

POLICE in New South Wales are searching for a man who allegedly approached two little children at separate events on the state’s far north coast.

The first incident occurred at a festival at Lennox Head on Tuesday morning, 11 July.

Police have been told a man approached a nine-year-old girl at the event on Ballina Street around 10.30am before he was ordered to leave the grounds by event organisers.

Then, around 5pm that afternoon, a 10-year-old girl was approached by a man at Belongil Beach in Byron Bay.

The girl left the beach with her family and the man walked away.

In a statement, police confirmed they believe the incidents are linked.

The man was described to police as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his 60s, 177cm-179cm tall, with a solid build and grey facial hair.

He was seen wearing wooden beads, rainbow-coloured shirt, tights and a black beanie and was seen driving a light grey Volkswagen transporter.

Anyone with information that could assist police with their investigation is urged to come forward.
