Police hunt man accused of indecently assaulting child in shopping centre

POLICE are searching for a man who allegedly indecently assaulted a child in a shop at Yamba, in northern NSW.

The 11-year-old girl was allegedly targeted at a shopping centre on Treelands Drive on Thursday afternoon.

Police said the child was in a discount store when she was approached by a man around 2.30pm.

The man allegedly struck up a conversation with the child before indecently assaulting her.

The man is described as being Caucasian in appearance, around 160-165cm tall and aged between 40 and 60.

He is described as having a large build, grey facial hair and a big nose, and was wearing a blue and white check button-up shirt, tan-coloured knee-length shorts and dark thongs.

Police said the man was carrying a red shopping basket and shopping bags from other stores.
