Police hunt man over midnight sex attack

DETECTIVES are hunting a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman on an oval in the middle of the night at Springfield, on the NSW Central Coast.

Police said the 26-year-old woman was sitting on Terry Oval in Wells Street around 12am, talking on her mobile phone, when a man walked up and sat down beside her.

That man allegedly engaged the woman in conversation before sexually assaulting her, police said.

He then got up and ran off towards Emma James Street and Headlam Parade while the woman reported the incident to officers at Gosford Police Station.

Police are now appealing for help from the public to find the man, who remains at large.

He is described as being Caucasian, aged in his early 30s and having a solid build with a round face, small eyes and light brown/blonde hair.

Police said the man is possibly a smoke and may have sustained facial injuries during the assault.

Anyone who thinks they may have seen a man matching this description loitering through Terry Park to contact Detectives at Gosford Police Station.
