Man arrested after woman sexually assaulted in frightening robbery

Police have arrested a man over the sexual assault of a woman at Rooty Hill last week.

It is alleged that at about 8.45pm, Thursday 9 July 2015, a 46-year-old woman was walking near the overpass stairwell along North Parade close to Sherbrooke Street, when she was grabbed from behind, sexually assaulted and robbed.

Police from Mt Druitt Local Area Command and State Crime Command Sex Crimes Squad attended and commenced an investigation.

This morning a 23-year-old Doonside man presented himself to Mt Druitt Police Station.

He is expected to be charged with three counts of aggravated sexual assault and aggravated robbery, refused bail to appear before Mt Druitt Local Court today (Wednesday 15 July 2015).

EARLIER: Police are publicly appealing for information over the sexual assault of a woman at Rooty Hill last night.

About 8.45pm (Thursday 9 July 2015), a 46-year-old woman was walking near the overpass stairwell along North Parade close to Sherbrooke Street, when she was grabbed from behind, sexually assaulted and robbed.

Police from Mt Druitt Local Area Command attended and commenced an investigation.

The woman was taken to hospital for treatment.

A crime scene was established and examined by specialist forensic officers.

Investigators have released a description of a teenager they believe can assist with this investigation. He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged 16 or 17, with a medium build and short brown hair. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt with a logo on the front and dark skinny pants.
