Man nabbed after doing runner from Police at Gold Coast airport

UPDATED @ 3.30PM: A man has been arrested after doing a runner from Police who were checking arriving passengers at Gold Coast airport.

The man had arrived on a flight from Sydney around midday and was screened along with other passengers.

But Police say he made a run for it shortly after, bolting towards the beach.

It’s understood the man had a return-to-prison warrant out for him.

The man’s runner sparked a major search around Billinga and Coolangatta with officers scouring the suburbs and cordoning off streets.

The 24-year-old was eventually arrested on the beachfront at Coolangatta just before 1pm.

EARLIER @ 1.30PM | Police are on the hunt for a man just near the Queensland border this afternoon.

It’s understood to have begun around 1.00pm, with multiple police crews now involved.

Newscorp reports a ‘runner’ broke through the border checkpoint through Coolangatta/Tweed.

At least 20 police officers are now on the hunt for the person within the area.

Queensland Police have confirmed that a chase is underway in Bilinga, but that no further information was available just yet.

More to come.
