Police investigate man’s mysterious serious injuries

MYSTERY surrounds how a man ended up unconscious on a Burleigh Heads footpath with serious head injuries last month.

Police say the 64-year-old man was out socialising on Sunday night, May 25 and caught a taxi with friends from Nobbys Beach to the Esplanade at Burleigh Heads around 10.30pm.

It’s believed the man, who at the time was wearing a distinctive pink t-shirt, then walked towards a nearby high-rise residence on the Gold Coast Highway.

A few minutes later, he was found unconscious by two young men lying on the driveway to the Gold Coast Highway residence.

He was rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital where he remains in the Intensive Care Unit with significant head injuries, rib and collar bone fractures.

Police say it is presently unclear how the man sustained these injuries and whether they occurred from a fall or if he was assaulted with police appealing for public for assistance.

Anyone who may have seen the man walking along the Gold Coast Highway at Burleigh between 10.30pm and 10.45pm or may have any information to assist police in relation to how the man was injured is asked to contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
