Police investigating ‘suspicious’ fire at Qld childcare centre

A CRIME scene has been established following a suspicious fire at a childcare centre in Toowoomba.

Emergency crews were called to the Rudd Street building in Drayton around 1.15pm on Tuesday after receiving reports a blaze had broken out in a store room.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Service officers managed to extinguished the flames and damage was contained to just the store room.

Police said “information indicates that a second fire had been extinguished at the opposite end of the building prior to police and emergency services arriving suggesting it may have been deliberately lit.”

Scenes of crime have been established with forensic investigations underway.

It’s not yet known what sparked the blaze.

No one was injured and all 41 children and nine staff members were safely evacuated from the building.
