Senior police officer arrested in Victoria and charged with rape

A senior police officer has been arrested and charged with rape and performing an indecent act in the presence of a child following an investigation by task force detectives in Victoria.

In a statement released to media this afternoon, Victoria Police said the Leading Senior Constable was arrested by detectives from Taskforce Salus in Tullamarine this morning.

It’s alleged the man committed the offences between July 2015 and May this year.

Police said the officer was off duty at the time.

Following the officer’s arrest, a warrant was subsequently executed at a property in Melbourne’s north.

The Senior Constable was interviewed and formally charged with six serious offences including rape, intentionally cause injury and indecent act in presence of a child under the age of 16.

He has been suspended with pay and will face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.

Taskforce Salus was established to identify and investigate sexual predatory behaviour and serious sexual harassment and discrimination allegations made against current or former Victoria Police employees.
