Police officer charged with rape ‘suspended with pay’

A VICTORIAN police officer formally charged with rape has been suspended from the force with full pay.

The male Senior Constable, identified as only being attached to the Eastern Region, was charged following an investigation by the Professional Standards Command.

Victoria Police released a brief statement a short time ago, confirming the officer had been “charged on summons with rape and sexual assault offences”.

The officer, whose age has not been revealed, has been “suspended with pay” and is expected to front court “at a later date”, the statement said.

It is not yet known when or where the alleged offences are said to have occurred.
