Police officer injured at Varsity Lakes

A police officer has sustained a broken finger during an incident at Varsity Lakes overnight.

Around 10.40pm, police attended an address on Coolibah Crescent following reports of a domestic dispute.

It is alleged that when a 41-year-old male Senior Constable attempted to arrest a man on an unrelated manner, a struggle ensued, resulting in the officer sustaining a broken finger.


The officer will undergo surgery for his injury.

A 48-year-old Varsity Lakes man has been charged with one count each of serious assault police causing grievous bodily harm, serious assault police, and obstruct police.

He is to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.
