Police on the hunt for NSW prison escapee

Police are searching for a minimum-security prisoner who escaped from a transport van at West Wyalong today.1

John Robert Bamblett, 35, was last seen running into bushland near the Newell Highway, about 6km north of West Wyalong, about 1.10pm .

Police from Griffith Local Area Command were notified and began searching for him.

Bamblett is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, around 183cm tall and 75kg in weight. He has tattoos on both arms and was last seen wearing a green prison uniform.

He is usually held in Ivanhoe Correctional Centre.

Police are warning the public not to approach Bamblett if they see him, but to instead contact Triple Zero immediately.
