Police open fire on car as it drives towards them outside Melbourne plaza

POLICE have opened fire on a car after its driver allegedly tried to mow down an officer outside a Melbourne shopping centre.

It’s alleged the vehicle turned and drove towards the officer outside Werribee Plaze at Hoppers Crossing just after 3pm on Thursday.

An officer fired a single shot at the vehicle as police tried to stop it on Heaths Road, but it kept driving.

It’s understood the vehicle was later found abandoned on nearby Rob Close. A short time later, five people were arrested. The group remains in police custody.

The Victoria Police Professional Standards Command has been tasked to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Thankfully, no one was injured.
