Police probe cause of fatal crash in northern NSW

POLICE are investigating the cause of a head-on crash which killed a woman in northern NSW.

That accident happened on Yetman Road, near Fullers Lane, at Inverell on Thursday afternoon.

Police said two Ford Falcon sedans collided head-on shortly before 2.30pm AEDT.

Emergency crews arrived to find the driver of one of the cars, a 69-year-old woman with life-threatening injuries.

Sadly, despite the desperate attempts of emergency services to keep her alive, she could not be saved.

Police confirmed the woman died at the scene before she could be taken to hospital.

A 37-year-old male passenger in the second sedan suffering a fractured ankle and shattered sternum.

He was stabilised by paramedics at the scene before being airlifted to hospital for further treatment.

The driver, a 37-year-old woman and a second male passenger, 43, escaped serious injury.

Investigations into the cause of the accident are continuing. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
