Police probe ‘suspicious’ fire at under-construction GC tavern

A manhunt is currently underway to track down those responsible for lighting a suspicious fire inside a business on the northern Gold Coast.

The blaze erupted inside a tavern currently under construction on Dixon Drive in Pimpama in the early hours of Saturday, July 2.

It’s understood a security company monitoring the construction site alerted police to the fire.

Officers then rushed to the scene, managing to locate a fire extinguisher nearby to put out the blaze and stop the flames from spreading.

Those responsible fled the scene before police arrived and remain at large this afternoon.

Detectives are now appealing for anyone who was in the vicinity of Dixon Drive between midnight and 12.40am and who may have footage of the fire, to come forward.

Investigations into the incident continue.
