POLICE have reopened the Southport Spit to the public after an earlier stand-off with a man forced its closure.
Officers were first called to the area around 10.30am on Tuesday after a clearly distressed man parked his motorbike in the middle of the oval and threatened self harm.
Multiple police units rushed to the scene and evacuated dozens of people from the immediate area.

Seaworld Drive was also closed to all traffic but has since been reopened.
It took police negotiators almost two hours to successfully resolve the situation without incident.
The man was taken into police custody around 12.50pm.
