Police seek witnesses to high speed crash on NSW South Coast

Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious high speed crash at Basin View, on the NSW South Coast.

The awful accident happened on along the Princes Highway at around 9.20pm on Saturday.

Investigators say Highway Patrol officers noticed a Holden Commodore speeding along the highway at Tomerong and, after conducting a u-turn to stop the car, reportedly found it crashed a short distance away.

The front-seat passenger, a 33-year-old man, was seriously injured.

He was airlifted to St George Hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition with severe head and neck injuries.

A 25-year-old woman travelling in the back was not injured.

The driver, a 26-year-old man from East Nowra, was arrested and taken to Nowra Police Station for questioning.

He has since been charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.

Refused bail, the 26-year-old was due to appear before Nowra Local Court today.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the crash or noticed the red Holden Commodore sedan travelling south on the Princes Highway about 9.20pm, to contact Nowra police via Crimestoppers on 1800 333000.
