Police swoop on Southport in search of alleged gunman

SCORES of police in bullet proof vests have swooped on Southport following reports of a disgruntled gunman.

Officers were first called to a Lenneberg Street unit complex around 11.30am after a young man was seen wielding a firearm.

Police vested up and set up a cordon around the address, but the man reportedly fled the scene on foot before they arrived.


It’s believed he was recently evicted from the premises. Multiple police units are now conducting extensive patrols of the area.

The man has been described as in his early 20s, Caucasian in appearance, six-foot tall, approximately 90kg and was last seen wearing black tracksuit pants, black T-shirt and carrying a black backpack.

It’s believed he may be in the company of woman with a skinny build, approximately 160cm tall and also in her 20s.
