Police taser man who got violent over lack of toilet paper

A man, angry that his local store had run out of toilet paper, has been tasered by police after a violent outburst.

The dramatic scenes unfolded at a Big W store on Bridge Street in Tamworth just after 10.00am today.

According to NSW police, the 50-year-old man became aggressive after he discovered there was no toilet paper left in the store, and unleashed his frustrations out on a female staff member by throwing boxes of tissues at her.

When a female customer approached the man, he then allegedly grabbed her around the throat before another customer ran to her aid.

The man then left the store and purchased items from a supermarket, where police tracked him down.

As officers tried to arrest the man, he allegedly attempted to put one of them into a headlock before trying to grab another officer’s gun, forcing police to taser him.

The man was finally arrested and taken to Tamworth Police Station, where he was charged with two counts each of common assault, resist officer in execution of duty, and assault officer in execution of duty.

He has been refused bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court tomorrow.

Inquiries are continuing.
