Police to return to Burleigh home following death of couple

Gold Coast Detectives have returned to a Burleigh home this morning after a man and his partner were found dead by a family friend yesterday afternoon.

Forensic crews have set up a crime scene while they investigate the possible murder/suicide.

It’s understood friends visiting the home of Dave Lee, 46, and his partner Mel, 36, made the horrifying discovery inside the home around 4.50pm.

Police were quick to respond and cordoned off the quiet suburban street.

Neighbours and friends were visibly upset outside the home yesterday, shocked that such a tragedy could occur in their friendly and peaceful street.

One resident told The Courier Mail: “You don’t even hear of anything like break-ins. It’s pretty sad to see something like this happen.”

Forensic crews spent much of the night at the home but police are yet to reveal any details about the couple’s death at this stage.

Police are appealing for anyone that may have information that could assist with investigations to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

It’s expected authorities will provide an update on the investigation today.

Friends have taken to social media to express their shock and sadness, leaving tributes on Mr Lee’s Facebook page.

“Can’t believe you’re gone mate!! I’m in total shock! Rest easy Dave!!” wrote Ricky Norman.

Another friend Steve Sutcliffe spoke of his shock.

“Woken this morning to the shocking news, R.I.P. Mate, my thoughts are with your family.”
