Pope Francis arrives in US for first visit

POPE Francis has arrived in the U.S, making him the fourth head of the Catholic Church to visit the country.

Francis landed on U.S soil for the first time on Tuesday ahead of his 6-day visit where he will highlight his willingness to tackle the nation’s most significant social, political and economic controversies.

President Barack Obama, first lady Michelle Obama and their daughters greeted the 78-year-old with a warm handshake upon his arrival from Cuba.

An official welcoming ceremony will be held on the South Lawn of the White House on Wednesday followed by a parade through Washington, where thousands of people are expected to line the sidewalks.
