Popular Gold Coast swimming enclosure closed after shark sighting

A popular swimming enclosure on the northern Gold Coast has been closed to the public following a shark sighting.

Locals are believed to have spotted the shark at the Jabiru Island swimming area in Paradise Point on Tuesday afternoon.

City of Gold Coast confirmed in a statement to myGC that the enclosure has since been closed.

“A member of the public reported a possible shark sighting at the Jabiru Island swimming area,” Council said.

“As a precaution, the City immediately erected signs closing the area to swimming.”
