Powerful earthquake recorded in the south Atlantic Ocean
A strong earthquake has been recorded in the southern Atlantic Ocean, around 10,000 kilometres west of Perth.
The quake struck off the coast of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands at around 7.47pm AEST.
Preliminary information suggests the earthquake was a strong magnitude 7.3 and struck at a depth of 90-100km.
The Bureau of Meteorology says there is no tsunami threat to Australia.
