Huge earthquake shakes South America
UPDATE 7:00 PM | A POWERFUL earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 8.0 has rattled northern Peru.
The quake, which hit at a depth of about 110km, struck 75km south-southeast of the village of Lagunas and 158km east-northeast of the port town of Yurimaguas about 2:41 a.m local time, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
Tremors were felt in Brazil and as far away as Columbia and Ecuador, more than 600 miles away.
