Pregnant woman injured in nasty crash on northern NSW highway

A pregnant woman has been hospitalised after a nasty crash in northern New South Wales early this morning.

Emergency services were called to the Gwydir Highway, about 20km west of Glen Innes around 3.00 am this morning, following reports of the single-car crash.

The driver, a 25-year-old man, and passenger, a 25-year-old woman who’s 34 weeks pregnant, sustained injuries in the incident.

The pair were briefly assessed at the scene before being taken to the Armidale Hospital for further treatment.

Another passenger was checked over as well but was luckily uninjured.

Local police established a crime scene and are now investigating the circumstances around the crash.

The Gwydir Highway is closed in both directions with traffic diversions and motorists are being urged to avoid the area if possible.
