Prisoners to face court after dramatic escape from police van

Two men have been charged and are due to face court today after a dramatic escape from a police van in Deception Bay yesterday.

Police say that around 2.30pm, the two prisoners were being transported in an unmarked police van when they managed to escape from the back of the vehicle.

One of the men, a 28-year-old, ran across two lanes of traffic on Deception Bay road before running into the path of an oncoming vehicle. The man continued running however was caught and taken into custody soon after.

He was transported to the Caboolture Hospital, where he remains, for treatment to what is believed to be minor injuries.

The second man, a 21-year-old, was located by police hiding in the ceiling cavity of a Deception Bay house.

A 24-year-old Deception Bay man was charged with harbouring an escaped prisoner and is due to appear in the Redcliffe Magistrates Court on August 22.

The 28-year-old Deception Bay man has been charged with one count of escape by person in lawful custody and the 21-year-old Wacol man with one count each of escape by person in lawful custody and obstruct police.

Both men are due to appear in the Redcliffe Magistrates Court today.
