Protectionist wins the 2014 Melbourne Cup

THAT’S IT FOLKS – PROTECTIONIST has won the $6.2 million 2014 Emirates Melbourne Cup.

The German horse finished three lengths in front of Red Cadeaux second and Who Shot Thebarman third with favourite to win Admire Rakti finishing dead last.

Protectionist is the first German horse to ever win a Melbourne Cup.


Thousands of Australian’s flocked to race tracks and entertainment venues across the country to watch the race that stops the nation with a more than 8,000 people expected to walk through the gates of the Gold Coast Turf Club.

Punters were tipped to bet close to a record $800 million on races today.
