Pups on SUPs: The adorable puppy paddleboard race is back this weekend!

Get excited Gold Coasters, because the adorable Stand-Up Paddle event ‘Pups on SUPs’ is back this weekend.

After a hugely successful event last year in Currumbin, Surfing Queensland has announced the competition will again take place, this time at the much-loved Gold Coast Broadwater in Southport on October 28.

“Last year’s event was great for the community, we’re incredibly excited to be hosting Pups on SUPs again,” Surfing Queensland CEO Adam Yates said.

“It should be a fun day for everyone, and we encourage everyone to come down and get involved.”

The event, which is the first of its kind in Queensland, was designed to allow the community to have some fun in the water alongside their furry friends.

There will be an open men and women’s 2km race, along with an open men and women’s 500m sprint.

“It’s always great to see everyone having fun with their dogs,” Australia’s Dog Whisperer and former World Champion tandem surfer Chris De Aboitiz said.

“It’s like you’re taking your dog for a walk, but you’re on the water. It’s an awesome way to give your dog a bit of exercise and structure”

Chris will be on hand during the event, offering a 3-minute training session for every dog, as well as a Q&A session. He will also be attempting to break a world record – to see how many dogs he can carry on his 17ft SUP board.

Throughout the action-packed day there will be a number of prizes and giveaways, along with plenty of pet stalls and food vendors. Each dog registered will also receive a free Gummi pets lead, with $5 from every registration going towards Animal Welfare League Queensland.

If you want to join in on the fun but don’t have your own SUP board, don’t stress! You can hire a board on the day for two hours.

Can’t wait to see you there with your pup in tow!
