Qantas passengers evacuated after emergency landing

MORE than 100 people have been evacuated from a Qantaslink jet after it made an emergency landing in Perth.

Flight QF 1623 was en route to the Western Australian capital from the mining town of Newman when it was forced to make an emergency landing shortly before midday.

It’s understood the pilot reported hydraulic issues while descending into Perth and detected fumes in the cockpit.

The aircraft was met by emergency services on the tarmac where all 97 passengers and five crew members were evacuated from the aircraft via the emergency slides.

No one was injured. An investigation into the cause of the incident is now underway.
