Qld cab driver threatened by ‘erratic’ passenger armed with knife

A TAXI driver has managed to escape a potentially violent encounter after he managed to flag down a passing police car when his passenger produced a knife.

The frightening incident unfolded at Sunnybank just after 12.30pm on Tuesday.

Police said the cabbie was travelling down Ditton Street when it is alleged his male passenger began acting erratically and produced a large knife.

The driver attempted to reason and calm the man, however to no avail.

Luckily, the taxi driver managed to spot a police car approaching Ditton Street and flagged it down before stopping and running from his vehicle.

Officers arrested the male passenger without incident at the scene.

A 36-year-old Sunnybank Hills man has since been charged with going armed so as to cause fear and common assault.

He was denied police bail and is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
