Qld cop bitten after responding to alleged domestic

A man and woman have been charged after multiple police were injured while responding to reports of a disturbance at a park in Cairns overnight.

Police say that around 8.20pm, officers attended a park on the Cairns esplanade after receiving reports of a man and woman fighting.

While speaking to the pair, it’s alleged a violent altercation broke out and an off duty police officer was bitten.

A 24-year-old Kewarra Beach man has been charged with multiple offences including serious assault police officer whilst adversely affected in a public place, obstruct police in public place while adversely affected by intoxicating substance, wilful damage of police property, wilful damage and common assault in public place while adversely affected by intoxicating substance.

A 25-year-old Cairns woman has been charged with three counts of serious assault police officer whilst adversely affected in public place and one count of serious assault police officer whilst adversely affected in public place by biting.

Both are expected to appear at the Cairns Magistrates Court on July 14.
