Qld drug-drivers double last Easter’s numbers

The Easter Road Safety Campaign is still underway until midnight tonight, though has already returned some alarming road statistics over the last 24 hours.

Drug Driving Roadside positive tests have hit an alarming high – more than doubling the same 24 period from the Easter weekend last year.

61 people returned a positive result in the period between midnight Saturday night and midnight Sunday night – up from 31 in the same period in 2018.

Speed Camera detections have also been significantly higher, over the last 24 hours 3,702 motorists were snapped over the speed limit across the state, up from 3,054 on the year before.

Motorists caught on their mobile phone, or not wearing a seat belt were also a lot higher than 2018’s statistics.

However, the results have shown that drink driving numbers are slightly down this year, with only 76 positive tests clocked up, over last year’s 82.

Though a person in Mudgeeraba was found with a blood-alcohol level of more than three times the legal limit, at 0.176 percent.

The Easter Road Safety Campaign will officially wrap up at midnight tonight, with further statistics released tomorrow.
