QLD ELECTION | Susie Gallagher named Labor’s candidate for Southport

The Queensland Premier has announced that Susie Gallagher will contest the Southport seat for Labor in this year’s state election.

Ms Gallagher is the managing director of Own2Feet, a local disability service provider. She also ran for Council’s division six earlier this year, but was ultimately unsuccessful.

A long-time local, Susie and her family have been involved with multiple community and sporting clubs over the years.

Amongst them, they’ve managed local icons such as The Cecil Hotel, Helensvale Tavern, Pacific Hotel, and the Gold Coast Tourist Shuffle.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says Ms Gallagher will be a strong community voice.

“We need local champions like Susie to help deliver our COVID-19 economic recovery plan in their area, to support businesses, restore local jobs, and encourage more industry to future-proof our great state.

“Economies around the world have been impacted by the global coronavirus pandemic. Australia is not immune. Queensland is not immune.

“We’re continuing to manage the health response and Queensland’s plan for economic recovery is well underway. That means we’re supporting local businesses and local jobs,” Premier Palaszczuk said.

Ms Gallagher will go up against LNP’s Rob Molhoek for the seat, which he’s held since 2012.
