The Queensland election is not expected until mid-2018, but that’s not stopping the opposition from getting on the front foot in a bid to win voters.
LNP leader Tim Nicholls has promised to freeze executive bonuses at Queensland government energy businesses until electricity prices drop, if he wins power.
“The message is blunt: your bonus will be frozen,” Mr Nicholls said.

“That means these executives will not receive their bonus until power prices fall,” he added while claiming household electricity prices had hit record highs in the past two years.
The policy will see around 30 top executives at Powerlink, CS Energy, Stanwell, Energy Queensland, Energex and Ergon given set performance targets aimed at reducing the cost of electricity.
“The LNP understands families can’t continue to face the pain of skyrocketing electricity prices. Enough is enough. It’s time Queenslanders are given a fair go.”
