Qld Government lifts restrictions for Anzac Day services

The Queensland Government has announced all COVID-19 restrictions for outdoor Anzac Day services will be lifted.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk confirmed the news in a post on social media on Wednesday afternoon.

“Restrictions have been lifted for all outdoor Anzac Day events in 2021,” the Premier said.

It means no COVID Safe Event Checklist or Event Plan will be required.

“Queenslanders worked hard to stop the spread of COVID-19,” Ms Palaszczuk said.

However, the easing of restrictions is too late for many Gold Coast services, including the iconic Currumbin dawn service.

The service has this year been moved from Elephant Rock to the Currumbin RSL, with organisers saying it would have been too hard to manage the crowd in a COVID-safe way.

It comes after last year’s Anzac Day services were cancelled altogether, with Gold Coast residents instead lining the streets at dawn to pay their respects.
