Qld man charged over wild police pursuit in northern NSW

A Queensland man has been charged after allegedly leading police on a chase over the border.

The vehicle was first spotted driving at “excessive” speed on the Pacific Highway towards Coffs Harbour around 2.00pm on Saturday.

“Officers from Coffs Harbour Traffic and Highway Patrol saw the vehicle travelling above the 110 km/h speed limit and attempted to stop the vehicle near Sapphire Beach,” NSW police said.

The car failed to stop and police initiated a pursuit before calling it off due to safety concerns.

However, the alleged driver was arrested a short time later after he came stuck in traffic outside the Coffs Harbour Police station.

The 30-year-old has since been charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, and use unregistered motor vehicle.

He was grated conditional bail to appear at Coffs Harbour Local Court on Monday 17 May.
