Qld man gang bashed by tourists needs reconstructive surgery, say police

A MAN is in hospital with horrific facial injuries after he was allegedly gang bashed by three tourists in Cairns.

Police said the 27-year-old local Whitfield man became embroiled in an altercation with three men from Victoria on Shields Street just before 11:30pm on Thursday.

The victim was allegedly punched to the ground by one of the men while the other two continued to assault him as he lay injured.


The injured man was transported to Cairns Base Hospital with serious facial and eye injuries. Police said he will require reconstructive surgery.

His three alleged attackers, one aged 24 and two 23, were later located and arrested by police.

They have each since been charged with grievous bodily harm and are due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Monday, 28 November.
