Qld man jailed for bashing housemate to death with sledgehammer

A central Queensland man has been jailed for seven and a half years for bashing his housemate to death with a sledgehammer.

Emerald man David John Cooper was found guilty by a jury of the manslaughter of 36-year-old Ernie Peterson.

ABC reports the court heard the two men were drunk and arguing in an Emerald home in 2013 when Cooper struck Mr Peterson in the chest with a sledgehammer.

He died several hours later.

Cooper was sentenced to seven and a half years jail, however he will be eligible for parole this December.
