UPDATE: 6:45PM Queensland Police have confirmed the death of a male officer who was shot by a wanted gunman during a dramatic car chase in the Lockyer Valley west of Brisbane earlier this afternoon.
The officer was killed and others received minor injuries as they tried to stop a car at the town of Seventeen Mile not far from Gatton.
The gunman also fired on the police helicopter which had joined the operation.

A police car reportedly crashed and rolled during the chase.
Just before 6:00pm heavily armed Special Emergency Response Team officers reportedly cornered the gunman in a farmhouse where a siege has developed.
A Queensland police officer has reportedly been shot in an incident in the Lockyer Valley, with local residents being told to stay indoors.
Police say specialist teams and the police helicopter are searching an area near the town of Seventeen Mile for a wanted man who is armed.
It’s understood shots were fired at police around 2.25pm this afternoon, with Queensland police confirming an officer had been injured.
A police vehicle is also believed to have been damaged.
Members of the public and the media are being told to avoid the area with an emergent situation declared at 3.40pm.
An exclusion zone is in place for the area of Fords Road, Forestry Road West, Sandy Creek Road, Gerard Lane, 17 Mile, Wallers Road and Forest Road.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said paramedics were on scene.
