Qld teachers win generous pay increase

Queensland teachers are set to become the best paid in the country after unions recommended members accept a new pay deal.

The new deal includes a 3 per cent ‘cost of living’ bonus which is likely to see other public sector employees put their hand out for the top up.

If accepted by members, teachers will see wages rise by between 11 per cent and 20 per cent over the next three years.

That includes an increase of 4 per cent this year, another 4 per cent next year and a 3 per cent increase in 2024.

The pay rise and cost of living bonus could see lead teachers earning $151,000 a year.

“This is an offer that includes some of the highest pay increases and best working conditions for teachers in Australia,’’ Education Minister Grace Grace said.

“The Palaszczuk government is committed to making the Queensland Department of Education the employer of choice for teachers in Australia.’’

Voting has opened for union members with teachers given until July 29 to have their say on the offer.
