Qld traffic controller killed in suspected hit-and-run

A manhunt is underway after a Queensland road worker was killed in a suspected hit and run in Mackay early this morning.

Emergency crews were called to the northbound lanes of the Bruce Highway around 4am following reports a man had been struck by a car while working on the Ron Camm Bridge.

Bystanders performed CPR on the 35-year-old before paramedics arrived, but sadly he could not be saved and died at the scene.

The vehicle involved, a stolen grey Toyota RAV4, was found abandoned at Petrie Street around an hour later.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
